I am reaching out to anyone who can help me find justice for a little girl who was murdered about 30 yrs. ago. This case is still opened and what upsets me most is that there has never been any follow up media coverage on this poor little girl.
This is what happened as I remember it.
It was in I believe 1977 in Waggaman, LA. Waggaman is in Jefferson Parish. It's a small town about 25 miles outside of New Orleans. She was 7 yrs old. Her mother said Stephanie was heading out to the gym near the school. In this subdivision, the school, gym and playground are all in close proximity. The child never came home. The mother started knocking on doors looking for her. There was a rumor that Stephanie was seen chasing an ice cream truck. In any case, it was a huge case in this small subdivision. The child remained missing for I believe 3 or 4 wks, maybe longer, because I found her name in death notices in 1978. Stephanie Lynn Hebert. I could not found anymore info.
I posted on another site and got feedback which was great, because up until then I was wondering if I had the right name, but I did. So far I have contacted AMW and Times-Picayune.
AMW responded that they could not find anything on this case.
I wondered if it was solved and that was why I could not find anything. I recently found out its still open.
I am so disappointed with JPSO and the local New Orleans media that they have pushed this case aside for so long.
This is 2008. The child was found in a nearby parish tied to a tree by a hunter and his son. Please if anyone here knows how to get the media's attention or law enforcement, please help.
I can't explain why I am so attached to this case. I just get so angry that whoever did this to her is still out there.
