Hey, guys!
I hope y'all won't be bashful about political discussions here. I never bear hard feelings over political differences...hell, I live in Mississippi, and I'd be very lonely if I chose my friendships based on what political affiliation someone is.
I'm a liberal and a Democrat, pretty much a yelladog--but I don't begrudge anyone for their party affiliation, and I really love lively, spirited debates over politics.
I hope that the silence in this forum isn't because y'all don't want to talk about politics because you disagree with me.
We've got a huge election coming up in one month...let's talk about it! ;D

I am neither party, but I will say, I want McCain this go around.
Oh, I also never vote, so it really does not matter who I want, LOL.

I'm not one to get into political discussions, but these boards seem to be pretty respectful or people's opinions and supportive of those that express themselves.
I am registered Republican but have never voted for a Republican presidential candidate. I would consider myself liberal, but growing up, my perception was Republican=white collar, Democrat= blue collar.
I am pro-choice. I believe that a ban on gay marriage and not allowing gay couples to adopt is discrimination and it pisses me off. I am not gay, but I have many dear friends and co-workers who are.
I used to consider myself upper middle class. Now I'm lucky to break even each week, even though I still earn above the average mean. The economy suck, no matter what the spin doctors keep forcing down out throats.
I always liked McCain and have voted for him in the primaries. I feel that if McCain had been elected instead of Bush, our nation would not be in the mess we currently in. But when he promises more of the same, I can not accept that. I also worry about his age and his health issues. I watched his interview on the "Ellen Show" and although McCain was respectful, he has major issues with gay people and their right to equal rights.
Don't get me started on Bush, but what I will say is that he is unable to admit when he is wrong, and keeps telling the nation, It's all good. It has not been good since 9-11.
I used to like Biden, but it troubles me the months ago he expressed to the media that he would accept on offer to become a vice presidential candidate, but he did not want to be asked. Some question if he is too inside Washington to not be corrupt. If I had my way, most lobbyist's should be strung up by their you know what's. They have their place in Washington, but most times they are not looking out for the average Joe.
Like it or not, but racism still exists. Much has been written about the prospects of Obama being assassinated if elected. But let's not forget that he is half white.
Can we really picture Palin as president? She does not have a clue on many levels and is more prejudice than McCain. During her debate, I was reminded of the Miss Teen USA contestant from South Carolina talking (excuse me) "talking out her ass" about the reasons American students can't find the United States on a world map.
I loved it when Biden called her out on global warming. How can you fix global warming when you can not even figure out or accept the causes.
A friend of mine posted a poll on his blog that slapped me in the face. In the Spring of 2012, who will be President? McCain, Palin, Obama or Biden.
Were is Ralph Nader when you need him? LOL
BTW I feel the the two party system is no longer relevant to present day America. It really peeves me that people vote along political line rather than for the individual candidate. Glad I don't talk politics. LOL

Glad I don't talk politics. LOL You have made some really great points there janea64, and really I think you're last paragraph is the crux of the problem...our two party system is antiquated, and broken to boot..It was probably fine to have two parties a few hundred years ago when there were only a few thousand citizens, now not so much. I am registered Democrat, but I dont like to pigeon-holed, almost registered as Independent, but was told I couldnt vote in the primaries...Like I said, the whole system is broken and corrupt...and when Dubya was appointed as President by the Supreme Court I felt a cold chill, that has turned into a deep freeze. Why in the hell would the Supreme Court need to be involved? Oh, I better not get started on that.... Bottom line, I will vote Obama. John McCain used to be someone I respected and thought alot of, but it's clear that his desire to be president clouded his judgement, and he threw himself into the Dubya/Cheney machine to achieve his goal.....Sarah Palin was chosen to be the shiny object to distract us, and I am VERY distracted by her, frankly she scares the hell outta me. Banning books, charging rape victims for rape kits in the hospital, well, I dont like it, or her. Pushing her teenage daughter into a marriage due to pregnancy is really none of my business, but I cant avoid it, because the media has pushed it in my face. There's another problem, the MEDIA....what happened to journalists and reporters being our watchdogs, an impartial entity that was supposed to be reporting on things, not trying to make us lean one way or another?? It's also very disenheartening to me that NO ONE is talking about IRAQ and AFGHANISTAN! We just keep sending our kids over there and a shitload of our money, and no one is SCREAMING about it?? About the only thing I hear about that situation is when the republicans say "Mr. X, a democrat, doesnt want us to WIN the WAR".....um, what exactly does WINNING entail?? How do we "bring freedom and democracy" to places in the world that clearly will never be free or democratic?? Ok, rant over.

EIGHT IS ENOUGH!!! Sorry - I couldn't resist. I think we need a change and I live in a mainly Republican area (North East Texas), I am chastised at work for feeling the way I do. I am a banker, and most of my coworkers are Republican and I swear, they are only voting that way because that's what someone in their family told them to. Nobody knows the real issues, yet everybody has an opinion. It is very frustrating and I am a silent democrat at work.

I love the girl, but she doesnt even think, just votes republican, like it's an inherited, genetic trait...whew, this election she said just isnt going to vote, and I say GOOD....I used to try to goad people into voting, but now I am starting to see that isnt such a good idea either. I just wish more people cared about who/what they are voting for, and read a little bit. It's very sad that more people vote for and discuss American Idol, more so than a presidential election. So sad.

sadly, there too many people who raised by parents who are a certain party and the child continues on that voting path without bothering to understand what they are voting for...<snipped> My adopted 'rents are devout Republicans & Lutherans ... it wasn't until I moved out that I became Libertarian and non-denominational ... I won't force politics or religion on either of my kids ... yes, we do discuss both in our house ... some really great discussions were with of all people my 11 yr old ... but I tell my kids even though they are not adults yet they do have the right to their beliefs regardless of their age.
