I feel sad that the people who Obama can help the most, will refuse to vote for him based on the color of his skin.

Well, I think I'm running the risk of being the only person ever to be banned for political beliefs. I respect everyone's right to their opinions, but as I sit here and watch election returns, I'm physically ill. I'm not being dramatic; just honest. I fear the path Obama will take us down. I fear his socialistic leanings. I fear his lack of experience. I fear his church affiliations. This truly has nothing to do with the color of his skin, but I doubt anyone can say that the tremendous turn out for this election was about policy. Yes, it is an historical event. I hope it does not become a tragic event. I so adamantly resist his redistribution of the wealth policy. If you're thinking about starting a business, creating jobs, creating income, what incentive is he going to offer? Higher taxes? What incentive is that? Robin Hood approach. There have been classes in our nation since its beginning. There actually needs to be a class system. Otherwise, to what does one aspire? If everyone is equal, will people be challenged to invent new products? Create new businesses? Why? You'll do all the work, and have nothing extra to show for it. I probably am making no sense whatsoever, 'cause I'm distraught. I vote in Virginia. My state went blue tonight, so they're projecting, for the 2nd time in 60 years. They just showed our polling votes; 92% of the black vote for Obama (they jsut said we have the 10th hightest black population in the nation), and 8% for McCain. Don't tell me this wasn't a race of color. I don't believe it. I've probably made no sense whatsoever, and I ask your forgiveness for that. If you don't share my views, that's okay. I hope you still respect me. I, quite honestly, didn't know where else to say all this. Thanks for listening.

ez ... I love you ... I struggled very hard with my vote ... I'm neither Republican nor Democrat ... I voted Republican ... call me ignorant but I agree with your statement regarding church affiliations ... I've heard this from numerous people ... I guess we're ALL ignorant ... yes it's historic ... black president ... but it could have swung the other way ... first female VP ... the next 4 years will be quite intersting ... I hope America made the right decision ... if the shit hits the fan ... they've only themselves to blame. Then again, they'll just deflect and blame their opposing party ... it's always "the other guy's fault".
The only thing I'm really watching is Prop 8 here is California ... and the polls closed 8 minutes ago ...

SoCali, thanks. I needed that. It curdles my blood to think that Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Jeremiah Wright, and other radically left wing people will now feel that they have a claim on the White House. Early on in this campaign, even before Obama got the nomination, a friend directed me to Obama's church's website. No one on the face of the earth can convince me that anyone can sit in a church for 20 years and not absorb something. It bothers me terribly to read on the church's webste (I think it's tucc.org) in their mission statement they profess a "non-negotiable pact with Africa." I have nothing against the people of Africa. I love America. I wish everyone could enjoy all the liberties we have. But that statement just rubbed me wrong. And you're right...it could have swung the other way with history. First female VP. Well, that wouldn't have been so bad. I just wonder what Tiny Faye (sp?) will do now. I do hope Obama will prove me ignorant. I hope he lives up to what he's been saying. One of the political pundits just said, it will be interesting to meet the real Obama. The pundit's question was...is he the Obama he's always been, or will he be the Obama he transformed himself into for a political campaign. I hope your Prop 8 goes well. At this point, though, who knows? I just listened to McCain's concession speech. I guess it's official. But I will quote one thing he said: "God bless America."

Janea, congrats. I'm NOT a republican; I've always described myself as an independent. I never have and never will vote the party...I vote the person. Sweet dreams. I'll think of you while I'm tossing and turning.

Well SCM and EZ ------ I am with both of you. I am sick to my stomach. I voted Repub for the same reasons you both mention. It has nothing to do with color for me. In fact, if Colin Powell were running and I wish he was....I would have voted for him. There is something in my gut .... I don't trust Obama.....more than other politicians.
Time will tell.

Well, there were a lot of people strolling in to work today very happy with the election vote. One in particular caught my attention. She is 35 years old and this was her first election. I asked her why she never voted before and she said she didn't care back then. I asked her for her sudden change of heart.....she said that she is looking forward to change. Did I mention she is black? and VERY NICE. I also asked her what she felt was going to change......she didn't have an answer. I don't know, maybe it's me.............

I received a very nice PM today from one of the Dwellers. Thank you so much (you know who you are)! I work in an office of mostly Republicans and my boss is a Republican from Texas! I learned a long time ago not to discuss politics at the office, as most of the Republicans are very set in their ways, would never vote for any Democrat and don't want to hear any opinion that does not agree with theirs. It always turns into an argument (heated beyond a debate), so I learned to keep my mouth shut. There is a small group of us who are free thinkers who vote for the issues and the people who would serve the country the best. I don't even know what affiliation they are as it is not an issue with us. We can listen to each others views and opinions and can be swayed with reasonable logic. We don't have like a club or regular meetings or anything like that, it's just we know who we can talk to when something political is bugging us or is just a bad plan and how it went so wrong. I am amazed by the corral effect, people's gullibility to believe everything they hear in political ads and their lack of interest to research and look at all sides of an issue. Case in point. In 2004, the real estate market in Florida boomed. I saw resale values in my neighborhood triple in 1 year. If someone needed a larger house, the real estate taxes on the inflated price of the new house made it unaffordable to do, since we have a 3% annual cap on our assessed value. So many added on to their existing homes. The hurricanes came through and tore off all our roofs with no one to repair them and no supplies as everyone was busy building new houses. Property prices started to level off and even started dropping. Too many new houses on the market. People even moved out of the state not wanting to go through another hurricane season like that one. Last year the people of Florida were given the task of deciding whether the homestead tax exemption should be increased from $25,000 per year to $50,000 per year. The state also proposed tax portability in the same amendment (to help the realtors), that if you move to a more expensive property, you would pay the same tax rate they were paying on their old property (if your taxes at the assessed value were 50% of your appraised value, you would pay 50% of the appraised value of your new home). Less taxes is good, right! Passed by a landslide. Budget comes up in January, sorry, we have no money for schools, road maintenance, we are going to have to cut back on our money given to the counties. The counties are now getting hit from both ends. Less support from the state, less money in tax revenues. Sorry we are going t have to fire teachers (2,000 in my county alone) close schools, stop free lunches (when families are needing it the most), your house is on fire? Sorry you're going to have to pay a bill to the firefighters who couldn't save your house because they are understaffed and the list just goes on and on and on. Now everyone is up in arms because services are being cut. Who should have to pay for fire services? But some cities have had to resort to that. And all because no one stopped to think... less taxes, where is that money going to come from? And what did we receive for this tax exemption that caused chaos and will end up trickling down to us eventually with higher sales taxes? We are saving a whopping $100 a year in real estate taxes. Sorry for the rant, but just one example of the corral effect. Not looking at all sides of an issue. So Tuesday morning, our little group of free thinkers were celebrating very quietly and secretly, while most of our co-workers were in obviously in a bad mood. And it's a shame we had to celebrate in private, but being the respectful people that were are, we did not want to start any debates, nor rub it in. One of my superiors who is from Costa Rica (and could not vote) who I have a lot of respect for and is a free thinker (who I have never talked politics with and did not know who she would have voted for) asked me with a sly smile if I was happy on Tuesday morning. I told her yes, thinking that I knew what she was talking about. She smiled and said good. So I added, I would hope that that majority of the people should be happy this morning. This gave her a very good chuckle. I must say that I have always liked Joe Biden and John McCain. I have voted for McCain in the primaries since 2000. I just feel he has gotten a little out of touch with the people he would be representing and did not have a plan to get this nation out of the mess we are in. Bush has had blinders on to what is going on with his peeps and thought that by telling it's all good, it would be so. We'll just through money, that we don't have, at the problem and it will go away. Money talks, lets give the people a little spending cash and they will feel all warm and fuzzy. I saw this whole mess coming years ago, but never dreamed it would get so bad. All McCain wanted to do was try to convince the people what a bad choice Obama would be. I had my doubts about Obama, but after doing some research and having an open mind listened to his plan and ideals and they made sense to me. I also feel that he is the best person to unite the two parties. In working together, things can be achieved. So after doing research and looking at all sides of all the issues, I am very happy with my choice. Is he going to be perfect, no. But I fell he is the best choice we were offered. Since the election I have read comments like, he only one because all of the black people voted for him. They didn't care who he was, just that he was black. Well what makes that different than voting for someone just because they have the same party affiliation you do? They are the people too and now have someone in the White House to represent them. I have seen comments on facebook that I could not believe how racist people could be. The two that shocked me the most was "can u belive the number of uneducated people in this country voting for a terrorist.........un "F"n belivable" (note the spelling). and "I learn something everyday, now I know that the illiteracy rate in America numbers 62,528,626 citizens and counting." It was all I could do to bite my tongue and not ask where all these literate people read that Obama was a terrorist. Since these were comments to a post and I do not know that posters, I refrained. They are posted on a friends comment who was being very respectful about her disappointment in McCain's loss. This friend is a celebrity and only has 9 friends, so I'm assuming that she is selective about who her friends are. I have met her a few times and talked to her on the phone a few times, but many of my co-workers work with her on a weekly basis. So maybe this is the reason that my facebook co-workers are not on her friends list??? Last week I heard one of my co-workers saying that she told her mom to get absentee ballots for her grandparents, who are in assisted living and are not mentally capable, and fill them out for McCain. Her mom said, but they are Democrats. She told her mother, well you know they would never vote for a black man and you have power of attorney. I work in a culturally diverse office and our company has affiliates around the world. I have never heard and racial remarks in our office. This shocked me. I know there are many racists in this country, but I have seen little glimpses of it showing through in the last several weeks. It makes me sick to see how narrow minded and closeted racists these people around me are. I can dislike a white person just as easily as I can dislike a black person, or an asian... So if you have gotten to the end of this rant, I hope I have opened your mind to at least give Obama a chance before you start to tear him down. If you have not, there is probably little anyone can do or say that would change your mind, and you will be miserable for the next 4 years.

No he won it fair and square with a good plan, good ideas and without slinging mud! At least he didn't steal it with confusion and loopholes and a whole team of lobbyists and lawyers who would insure he kept his hands clean of the hole mess. Sorry to those few that are still loyal to W.

I may be naive, but I am not racist, but I do believe many of his votes were from blacks, mexicans, hispanics, etc., because they were glad to finally have a black candidate. I also believe that many people hate Bush so much that McCain never had a chance. But if you notice, on the electoral map, most of the states that are more diverse, like CA, VA, DC, all of the states that Obama won, I would have to say they are extremely diverse and mixed races and the other races might be more than the white population all together.
I cannot watch anything to do with his election. The news that have been round the clock showing people like Oprah crying, Reverend whatever his name is, and all the crowds of people gathered, it reminds me of something going on in Alabama from years ago with slaves and what not, or a rally, or a Martin Luther King speech. It is nauseating to me. It is like give me a break, slavery ended many mooons ago, I did not have a slave, many americans did not have slaves, we think of the black people as we think of every person, or at least I do. It is like the 2nd coming of Christ for God sakes. People crying as if they know this man and he gives a flying fig about them. Grrrrrrr.
I can't stand it. I am just going to wait and see what happens with him and what he does for all the people in this country.

I am just going to wait and see what happens with him and what he does for all the people in this country. Thanks ZooMom! Yes the almost riot like atmosphere in the celebrations has me a little disheartened as well. I grew up in a very white community with a racist father (who is turning in his grave right now). The high school that I went to in PA was about half and half. I saw first hand the unity of the black culture ( a sin against one is a sin against all). I have seen first hand racial riots. But I truly feel that Obama wants unity for the nation, between the parties and between the many races of our nation. And maybe it might take an "outsider" to accomplish this. I think we can all agree that the nation is in crisis! The only way to solve problems is to work together for a common goal. Nothing has ever been achieved by fighting and nothing can be solved by pointing fingers. I know that the mess this nation is in boils down to greed on many levels. This nation needs someone with a plan, who can unite us rather than divide us. Who is seeing the big picture and not what is best for a select few. I understand that this whole thing is a crap shoot, but I'd like all of us to give him a chance, put race, creed and gender aside. Let's all work together to fix this mess. God, I'm beginning to sound like him. I think this nation is smart enough to take the Jesse Jackson's, Al Sharpton's, Johnny Cochran's and the Jeremyah (sp) Wright's of this nation and the NCAAP activists for what they are. For they are racists wanting to further divide rather than unite. They put a black eye on the afro-americans. A little known fact... very little... I was a Miss Daytona Beach contestant in 1982. A afro-american girl from my high school was also in the contest. She was voted "Miss Mainland" and "Miss ROTC" in our senior year. I was not pleased with the judges choice for Miss Daytona, mainly because she broke every rule in the book, was a career pageant contestant and had no talent. After the lights went off and we were all loading our stuff in our cars, Miss Mainlands family was shouting at the top of their lung in the parking lot that the judges were racist... they were calling the NAACP blah, blah, blah... (their favorite contestant was no match for even the runner-up) This was my first real taste of reverse racism and I felt it to the core. Okay, I'm getting off my soapbox and heading to bed. Thank you all for being respectful of my opinions and I will return the favor!

I agree that uneducated people voted for Obama because he is black, but same can be said for people who voted for McCain simply on the basis that he is not black. I can see that I am not gaining any friends by voicing my opinions.
