Reposted from someplace on the web ....
"I saw a homeless guy with a sign that read "Vote Obama, I need the money." I laughed and went into the restaurant.
In the restaurant I noted that my server had on an "Obama 08" tie.
By the time the bill came I had decided not to tip the server. Instead I explained to him that I was applying the Obama redistribution of wealth concept. The waiter stood there in disbelief when I told him that I was going to redistribute his tip to someone I deemed more in need of the money, the homeless dude outside. The server was not happy!
As I left the restaurant, I gave the homeless dude the tip money and told him to thank the server inside as I've decided he could use the money more. The homeless guy was grateful.
By now you have realized that the homeless guy was grateful for the money he did not earn, but the waiter was very unhappy that I gave away the money he had earned even although the recipient deserved money more.
So now you can see the actual redistribution of wealth is easier to accept in concept than in practical application!"

OMG Cali, I saw the same thing.....think I got an email. I sent it to my daughter because it was the easiest way to explain it to her. She was a little unhappy....she likes Obama.....but it did make sense to her. Funny part is, she waitresses at an Italian restaurant. It hit her in the "wallet". LOL At 17, those tips mean EVERYTHING!!!!!!

I have no idea how, cause I am not. My hubby says its cause of the kids in school and the teachers, but they were whooping and hollering. I promptly told them that now that Obama was president, he would be coming to pop off their little heads, and eat them. Joking of course. They keep telling me Obama does not eat chidlren. Hubby is also not an Obama fan. My state voted for McCain, but I didn't vote. Never vote. My vote does not matter one bit.

Not in California where everything gets repealed ... fuckers .. I can't wait to move. You mean the gay marriage thingy? How did that work exactly? Was it somehow tied to the election and Obama? Or was that in the works before he was elected? Did voters vote for that issues while they were voting for Obama? I personally (MY OPINION ONLY AND I DON'T HOLD IT AGAINST ANYBODY) is that marriage is between a man and a woman, but I really could care less if same-sex couples marry or are acknowleged as married by the government. Just not my thing, but I am sure there are millions where it is their thing. Who gives me a right to be any happier than a gay person and have more rights than a gay couple like insurance benefits, etc.? Nobody. Anyway, to each their own, is my motto. I just would prefer not to see it or have my kids see it, and by that I don't mean a couple walking hand in hand, but making out is what I mean.

That's a step back in time ... remember when interracial relationships were illegal ... remember that? This has been a huge issue in California for a long time. It was voted on, passed, didn't pass, overturned in the courts because it was discriminatory ... I've lost track of how many times this has been decided then undecided ... seriously ... there are worse things kids can see and I can guarantee I'm sure they've seen them ... the fact they (gays & lesbians) are being treated as second class citizens are disgusting ... churches are hypocrites ... supporting the ban yet preach he who is without sin ... blah blah blah ... And I call a big ol' bullshit on kids being taught in school about gay marriages ... I never was taught anything about "straight" marriage in school ... so in Penn & Teller style ...

Yeah, but SoCal, interracial is so much different than same sex, in my mind. Maybe cause I have really had no history with anybody who is gay. Never in my life do I even think I have met somebody that told me or I knew they were gay. The issues involved with same sex marriage are numerous. Again, I don't personally care, but I am sure there are people who do care. It just does not affect me. My kids asked me before what Gay is and I just told them that that means a girl who likes girls and or a boy who likes boys. It realy is not that big of an issue, but I can tell you, where we live, we have never seen not one incidence of this. And, I don't make out in front of my kids with my hubby, I wouldn't want to watch man-wife marreid couple making out in front of me or my kids, and I cannot imagine watching a man-man make out or a women-women make out. I don't want my kids seeing this, they are 8-9-10, too young to even know what making out is really, by anybody. Maybe I am just sheltered.

Great analogy of the redistribution thing. Only better would have been had the customer dipped his/her hand into the cash register, and given that money to the homeless guy. That's the redistribution part that worries me. The guy with the cash register will be the big loser.

The "wealth redistribution" crap is a right-wing concoction.
Do any of you think that we don't already have redistribution with taxes? If it weren't for "redistribution," there'd be no paved roads, public schools, police departments, and health departments.
Taxes ARE redistribution. Maybe not in the sense that the analogy above is trying to suggest. But we pay taxes so that everyone has public services. Why? Because most of us are incapable of paving our own roads or giving our children vaccinations.
As far as "redistribution" as far as individual tax rates go, I would like to hear more of what some of y'all think about that.
It's been well proved that trickle-down tax cuts don't work. One only has to look at the financial crises that happened in the Reagan and Bush II administrations to deduce that.
If Obama wants to return to taxation rates similar to what existed during the Clinton administration--a time when we had peace and prosperity in the US--I don't see any problem with it.
But I think it's kind of silly to deem Obama as a socialist or "Marxist," when there's just no evidence that he holds socialist or marxist views.

I do care about gay marriage. I do have a lot of gay friends. I really don't see how gay marriage will hurt our republic.
I don't see how expanding gay rights has any impact on straight marriage at all.
It perplexes me why so many people feel that they should tell others how to live their lives.
I think that the California courts will repeal the ban on gay marriage. I hope so.
Using ballot initiatives to restrict rights is not a good thing.

[/quote] Excellent post....I so agree, and am so happy to see how passionate you feel about it. I am not gay, but have many gay friends and colleagues, and in my opinion, it is a very seroius human rights issue, and I also feel very passionately about it. To the point where I get angry at one of my lesbian friends for giving the Australian government a bit of a pass on it!! The Australian Government attitude is like prop 8, "marriage is between a man and a woman". To me that is a religious chant, not something the government should be advocating and they look like religious zealots to me when they spew that stuff or even allow people to vote on it. Who are we as heterosexuals to effectively punish people for being different to us? We allow convicted paedophiles, felons, drunks, addicts and all sorts of people to marry. We allow women to marry mass murderers in jail, but two homosexuals who love each other and are committed can't marry? WTF??? I feel so sorry for the young people that are suffering as a result of this.....it must be incredibly frightening to come of age, realize you are homosexual, and feel that society thinks you ought to be ashamed of this, and effectively punished for it. I can't imagine the courage it takes for these poor people to come out of the closet. I can only imagine how many young (and older) people have killed themselves over their inability to deal with this. As for not wanting to see it in public, to me it makes no difference if displays of affection are between same sex or heterosexuals. Though I must say, when I see homosexuals displaying affection publicly (for example, handholding etc), I think of their courage and how much more difficult it is for them to be able to do so. To me, that's just not right. Though I was overjoyed to see Obama win the other night, I thought it sad that at the same time as we were in some way overcoming racism in one respect, California still approved discriminating against a different group of people.

Though I was overjoyed to see Obama win the other night, I thought it sad that at the same time as we were in some way overcoming racism in one respect, California still approved discriminating against a different group of people. Great post. Living in Mississippi, I never see PDAs between gay couples out in public. A gay friend of mine from California told me that he'd like to visit me in Mississippi, but he's afraid to. I told him that gays are "accepted" here. He said, "QA, no, they aren't." It was a very enlightening conversation we had. He said, "Gays get by as being seen as 'eccentrics' there. But they aren't 'accepted' there." I thought about it. He's right. At the florist here, there's a gay man who works there. All the old flower-club bitches just LOVE him. He's sooo good at arranging flowers, ya know. His sexuality isn't accepted, just the way he fits the stereotype they've concocted in their brains. And then there's the elderly gay couple that lives in town. They participate in civic events, arts council, and stuff like that, and "oh, we just love them" here. Yeah, because they fit the stereotypes about gays that we believe. But would any of the folks who "just love them" accept them if they were out with their affection for each other? I can tell ya quickly, NO. I'll be brutally honest with y'all. As a straight woman, I suck at marriage. And until we straight people perfect the institution, I'm just kinda wondering why we should feel that we have the right to tell others who are different from us that they should be prohibited from enjoying the rights that many of us have utilized, and failed at. I know gay couples who have been together for decades. Who knows. Maybe they could teach us something about success in relationships. I also know gay kids who have considered suicide rather than let their fundamentalist parents know that they are gay. I know gay kids who, when they became 18, felt they should be honest with their parents, only to be kicked out of their parents' home. I'm all about peace and love. I've learned some tough life's lessons along the path of my life. I never want someone I love to be afraid to come to me and confide in me about his or her sexuality, with fear that I might disown him or her. Just my opinion on the topic...sorry if I monopolized the soapbox.

Hell, I live in NY. I see everything! I have no problem with gay marriage. I know many gay people.
It's their life and I feel they should live it how they feel comfortable. They didn't choose to be gay. It's who they are.

I've been trying to stay away from this forum, because I'm a political writer and this forum is like heroin to me...so here I go to feed my addiction I don't care about gay marriage. I don't really care what anyone's sexual preferences are as long as they are not looking down on me for mine or calling me a "breeder". I absolutely cannot stand it when someone calls me a "breeder" because I chose to have kids. And if Rosie O'Donnell wants gay and lesbian to be treated like "regular" people (I put that in quotes because I don't think gays are any different than anyone else) then don't have a gay and lesbian only cruise cause you are blatantly showing that you are different and want to be kept apart. You separate yourself in your effort to make all things the same. I am not an Obama fan and I didn't vote for him, and for anyone who says he's the country's first black president, hey, he's as much white as he is black. What are we, back to the one drop rule here? HIS MAMAS WHITE HE'S MIXED OKAY? Sorry to yell, but it's easier to yell here where I won't get a sore throat ;D I cannot keep my political opinions to myself and my autistic son repeats everything I say so he got called into the principals office when he told a classmate that the country was so sick of Bush, Satan could have run for President and won. When I told the principal I didn't see what was wrong with an opinion, she went on and on about how Obama was going to save us all from the crap Bush has gotten us into and blah blah blah.. For anyone who thought Obama could keep any of his promises and even attempt to fix even a smidgen of what Bush has spent 8 years fuckin up, well then, isn't it nice to have such a bright positive attitude?

Excellent post diva ... I think Obama has been given the status of a rock star. I lost count of how many times I cringed hearing people screaming "our first black president". Oy vey! He's interracial. One of my favorite websites these days is Polifact's Obameter. What happened to the "Allow five days of public comment before signing bills"? This package is not meant regular middle class folks ... it's all about corporate America. I say the companies that misused their funds should have been left to fail. How is bailing out the auto industry going to help? No one can afford to buy a car now anyhow? I do understand the 10s of thousand of auto workers that are left jobless ... but now, once again who's at fault. My company just laid of 31 salaried employees ... this week we're laying off 100 hourly. We're heading back to the Great Depression folks.
